The chanting of Homage to the Triple Gem as refuge is commonly chanted before receiving the precepts and at the beginning of longer chanting periods
Chanting the initial homage to the Triple Gem is followed by chanting the refuges. This mantra generally precedes any other chanting done by monks, other than the morning and evening chant. It also precedes the chanting of the precepts.
