My first CDG creation
Hi all, I know it's been forever since i've last given my YouTube channel some lovin'. This song is a beautiful song made popular/sung by Taiwanese songbird, Teresa Teng in the 70's. My dad has been telling me to give this song a shot for years now, but I never thought I was ready. Now that I am, I invited none other than the man who introduced me to this wonderful tune himself, MY PA, to accompany me on guitar. This was pretty much first take. Also, I decided to give it some old skool' Koko Kaina treatment! I (used to) speak Mandarin fluently though I my hanyu pinying is a little rusty though I do hope I did it some justice. The Skype alert in the end was from the moon. Ha. I love you all. And I promise to post more and frequently soon! I've missed you. PS: Stay tuned for more exciting news! =) xo
"The Moon Represents My Heart" (Yuèliàng Dàibiǎo Wǒ di Xīn) is a Chinese song that was written by an anonymous writer and made famous by Teresa Teng in the 1970s. A "love song with a waltz-like lilt", it has been covered by many performers since Teng's death in 1995 and remains one of her best-known hits. We're showing photos of Taiwan, where Teresa was born. Until the late 1970s, foreign music had not been allowed into mainland China for several decades. "The Moon Represents My Heart" became one of the first popular foreign songs (called "gangtai" songs) in the country under the new Open Door Policy. Teng's songs over the following decade revolutionized music in China. Her singing, described as "soft, sweet, often whispery and restrained," was considered the "ideal" in gangtai music at that time. She became so popular that "within months the country was literally flooded with her songs." "The Moon Represents My Heart," however, is often cited as one of her best-known or most popular pieces. First ever complete piece... An achievement for one without music background lest about instrument such as piano. Took me some months to master with whatever window of time I can squeeze amidst a busy work and mummy schedule. I remember my kids reluctant to teach me, they think is impossible for mummy to master two-hand piece. Now am inspired to learn next piece...
I love this Teresa Teng classic. Whenever I hear it, I get a little sad. The words are "Ni wen wo ai ni you duo sheng"..."You ask how much I love you". I always thought that would be pretty upsetting. So anyway, I thought this song should be sung with some sadness and vulnerability....
