The Fluke model 744 calibrator is "smart" enough to "outsmart" the reference-compensation function built inside the Roesmount temperature transmitter. This is necessary during calibration because there is no reference junction in the circuit to be compensated for. The transmitter's compensation feature, therefore, only "gets in the way" of the calibration. Thus, the Fluke calibrator is designed to subtract the reference junction (compensation) voltage from its output so that the transmitter sees the same millivoltage it would see if connected to an actual thermocouple at the actual calibration temperature. Clear as mud, no?
