Rajendra Prasad Kimothi, Ph.D. Album: Navagraha Puja According to the Vedas, astrology is the "eyes of the Vedas". It is one of the most important aspects of Vedic thought and Indian philosophy. Astrology is based on the configuration of the nine planets at the time of the birth of an individual. The placement of these planets in a person's horoscope and their permutations and combinations determine the course of events in his/her life. Each planet has a benefic and a malefic influence. The degree of this effect is determined by a host of factors - far too many to be enumerated here. However, what is sure is that some these planets have a negative influence that leads to various problems. Similarly, the positives in a person's life are related to the favorable influence of these planets. According to our ancient texts, the positive effects of the planets can be enhanced, and the negative influences mitigated by performing the Navagraha puja.

In the Zodiac, KUJA, ANGARAKA, MANGALA or MARS is regarded as a God of martial character, red in every aspect. Even the Romans held him as their Guru. A prayer to this planet frees one from Kuja dosha, debt poverty and illness afflicting the skin. This graha bestows property and conveyance (Locomotion). Loss of eyesight can be restored by a prayer to Angaraka. Tuesdays are intended for the worship of Angaraka who loves the chanting of Sama Veda.
