Description: Adi Shankaracharya was possibly one of the great saints of his time.. After brahmopadesa, as is usual during those times, he was asked to beg alms for his lunch. One day when he went to a Brahmin house, the lady of the house was so poor that she did not have anything to give him. She searched hard and found one small fruit of gooseberry, which she gave to Sankara the boy. He was so touched by her gesture that he sang these 21 mellifluous hymns on Goddess Lakshmi, who poured golden goose berries as rain to the poor womans house. Even today it is believed that poverty would be banished by singing this hymn.1Angam hare pulaka bhooshanamasrayanthi,Bhringanga neva mukulabharanam thamalam,Angikrithakhila vibhuthirapanga leela,Mangalyadasthu mama mangala devathaya.2Mugdha muhurvidhadhadathi vadhane Murare,Premathrapapranihithani gathagathani,Mala dhrishotmadhukareeva maheth pale ya,Sa ne sriyam dhisathu sagarasambhavaya.3Ameelithaksha madhigamya mudha MukundamAnandakandamanimeshamananga thanthram,Akekara stiththa kaninika pashma nethram,Bhoothyai bhavenmama bhjangasayananganaya.4Bahwanthare madhujitha srithakausthube ya,Haravaleeva nari neela mayi vibhathi,Kamapradha bhagavatho api kadaksha mala,Kalyanamavahathu me kamalalayaya5Kalambudhaalithorasi kaida bhare,Dharaadhare sphurathi yaa thadinganeva,Mathu samastha jagatham mahaneeya murthy,Badrani me dhisathu bhargava nandanaya6Praptham padam pradhamatha khalu yat prabhavath,Mangalyabhaji madhu madhini manamathena,Mayyapadetha mathara meekshanardham,Manthalasam cha makaralaya kanyakaya.7Viswamarendra padhavee bramadhana dhaksham,Ananda hethu radhikam madhu vishwoapi,Eshanna sheedhathu mayi kshanameekshanartham,Indhivarodhara sahodharamidhiraya8Ishta visishtamathayopi yaya dhayardhra,Dhrishtya thravishta papadam sulabham labhanthe,Hrishtim prahrushta kamlodhara deepthirishtam,Pushtim krishishta mama pushkravishtaraya.9Dhadyaddhayanupavanopi dravinambhudaraam,Asminna kinchina vihanga sisou vishanne,Dhushkaramagarmmapaneeya chiraya dhooram,Narayana pranayinee nayanambhuvaha.10Gheerdhevathethi garuda dwaja sundarithi,Sakambhareethi sasi shekara vallebhethi,Srishti sthithi pralaya kelishu samsthitha ya,Thasyai namas thribhvanai ka guros tharunyai.11Sruthyai namosthu shubha karma phala prasoothyai,Rathyai namosthu ramaneeya gunarnavayai,Shakthyai namosthu satha pathra nikethanayai,Pushtayi namosthu purushotthama vallabhayai.12Namosthu naleekha nibhananai,Namosthu dhugdhogdhadhi janma bhoomayai,Namosthu somamrutha sodharayai,Namosthu narayana vallabhayai.13Namosthu hemambhuja peetikayai,Namosthu bhoo mandala nayikayai,Namosthu devathi dhaya prayai,Namosthu Sarngayudha vallabhayai.14Namosthu devyai bhrugu nandanayai,Namosthu vishnorurasi sthithayai,Namosthu lakshmyai kamalalayai,Namosthu dhamodhra vallabhayai.15Namosthu Kanthyai kamalekshanayai,Namosthu bhoothyai bhuvanaprasoothyai,Namosthu devadhibhir archithayai,Namosthu nandhathmaja vallabhayai.16Sampath karaani sakalendriya nandanani,Samrajya dhana vibhavani saroruhakshi,Twad vandanani dhuritha haranodhythani,Mamev matharanisam kalayanthu manye.17Yath Kadaksha samupasana vidhi,Sevakasya sakalartha sapadha,Santhanodhi vachananga manasai,Twaam murari hridayeswareem bhaje18Sarasija nilaye saroja hasthe,Dhavalathamamsuka gandha maya shobhe,Bhagavathi hari vallabhe manogne,Tribhuvana bhoothikari praseeda mahye19Dhiggasthibhi kanaka kumbha mukha vasrushta,Sarvahini vimala charu jalaapluthangim,Prathar namami jagathaam janani masesha,Lokadhinatha grahini mamrithabhi puthreem.20Kamale Kamalaksha vallabhe twam,Karuna poora tharingithaira pangai,Avalokaya mamakinchananam,Prathamam pathamakrithrimam dhyaya21Sthuvanthi ye sthuthibhirameeranwaham,Thrayeemayim thribhuvanamatharam ramam,Gunadhika guruthara bhagya bhagina,Bhavanthi the bhuvi budha bhavithasayo.

Dedicated to Jit Shukla who requested this video. Kanakadhara Stotram One day in the sacred Rishi tradition Bhagvadpada Sri Adi Sankarachrya went to one old woman's house for alms (biksha). She was so poor, she was not having a proper dress and anything worth the name to give as biksha. So with the entrance door of her house slightly ajar, she reached out swamiji with her hand stretched and dropped one amlaka fruit (which was the only thing available in her house) into the hands of Sri Sankaracharya. Sri Sankaracharya was deeply touched at the plight and haplessness of the woman - So he chanted Kanakadharaa stotram and prayed Goddess Lakshmi to extend Her Grace on the woman. The giver of wealth Goddess Lakshmi showered as rain - Golden Amlaka fruits in the house of the old woman. This Stotram has been acclaimed as Kanaka Dharaa Stavam - and it is sure to bless all devotees who extol Sri Devi with all unflinching devotion. www.telugubhakti.com Translation: mailerindia.com Music by the Bombay Sisters Pics courtesty of lordvishnu0.tripod.com
As Sanakaracharya was singing Kanagadhara stotram, Mahalakshmi showered Golden amla fruit like rain infront of the poor womens hut. Imagine, rain of golden fruit showering from sky .www.hindutara.com
Thus the stotra of Sankaracarya towards Goddess Lakshmi was sacred, famous and popular known as Kanakadhara Stotra. Bhagavatpada Sankaracarya's Kanakadhara Stotra also called by him as Surarnadhara Stotra studded with Anugraha Bijakshar as aiming at Sri Lakshmi. Lakshmi in her manifestation is Arogya Lakshmi (giver of health), Keerti Lakshmi (bestower of name and fame), Santana Lakshmi (blesses children and continuing progeny), Vijaya Lakshmi (ensures victory in all the efforts), Dhana Lakshmi (Showers continuing wealth, Dhanya Lakshmi (restores abundant crops), Moksha Lakshmi (grants liberation), Sowbhagya Lakshmi (unending harmony and auspiciousness), Santa Lakshmi (giving peace). Thus she is apparently one in all the eight forms (Ashta Lakshmi) who also confers Ashta Siddhis, which are Anima, Mahima, Garima, Laghima, Prapti, Prakamya, Eesitva and Vasitva.for more details www.hindutara.com
Telugu Kanakadhara Stotram with Scripts
Adi Shankara became a monk at a very young age. The story goes that one day, he went begging for his food as was the custom, and arrived at the hut of a very poor Brahmin woman. The woman had no food at home except an Amla fruit (gooseberry), and she gave this to Adi Shankara. He was so overwhelmed by her generosity and so moved by her poverty that he extemporaneously composed and sang the Kanakadhara Stotram in front of the woman's hut. This prayer instantly invoked the Goddess Mahalakshmi, who rained down a shower of gold for the woman. Each piece of gold was shaped like a gooseberry. Reciting this prayer is said to eliminate poverty, but I don't think it's that simple. I think the key factor in this miracle was the kindness of the woman-- she didn't have the heart to send away a hungry little boy emptyhanded, so she gave him the only food she had. Such a simple thing to do, but how many of us could do it? Apparently, the woman's descendants still live in the place where this miracle took place, in the town of Kaladi, Kerala. Kaladi is also Adi Shankara's birthplace. Album: Divine Chants of Mahalakshmi. Singer: Uma Mohan.
