Während der 1970er Jahre sangen beide in einer ganzen Reihe verschiedener Bands. 1979 beschlossen die Schwestern, künftig unter dem Namen Maywood als Popduo und einem Repertoire von fröhlichen, englischsprachigen Dancenummern aufzutreten. Auf Anhieb erreichte die erste Single You Treated Me Wrong die niederländischen Singlecharts. Ihren ersten Top-Ten-Hit landeten Maywood im März 1980 mit Give Me Back My Love. Mit dieser Single gelang den beiden auch im Ausland der Sprung in die Charts. Die Nachfolgesingle Late at Night stieg im Juli 1980 an die Spitze der niederländischen Charts und blieb dort für drei Wochen. Der einzige Nummer-Eins-Hit der Band, den Maywood auch in akzentfrei deutscher Sprache unter dem Titel Lichtermeer veröffentlichte. Nach zahlreichen weiteren Hits in den Top 20 nahm ab Mitte der 1980er Jahre der Erfolg von Maywood ab. 1990 nahmen die beiden für die Niederlande mit ihrem einzigen Hit in ihrer Muttersprache, Ik wil alles mit je delen, am Eurovision Song Contest in Zagreb teil, erreichten aber nur den 15. Platz. Ab 1995 gingen Alice May und Caren Wood getrennte Wege und versuchten sich Solokarrieren aufzubauen, wenn auch ohne durchschlagenden Erfolg. Schlagzeilen machten die Schwestern lediglich 1999, als sie ihren Streit um die Rechte am Namen Maywood vor Gericht ausfochten. In 2010 ein „Maywood Comeback" mit der neuen Sängerin Inge Peters (Dance Academy und Musical). Geplant ist eine neue Version von Late at Night 2010 als neue Single der Gruppe ...
