A touching video. Christian the lion is reunited with his old owners.
Heart wrenching video of a bond between two men and a lion. Words cannot express the love between these two men and christian. Clearly shows that animals have feeling and memory. n 1969 a young Australian, John Rendall and his friend Ace Bourke, bought a small lion cub from Harrods pet department, which was then legal. 'Christian' was kept in the basement of a furniture shop on the Kings Road in Chelsea, the heart of the swinging sixties. Loved by all, the affectionate cub ate in a local restaurant, played in a nearby graveyard, but was growing fast... A chance encounter with Bill Travers and Virginia McKenna led to a new life for Christian. He came to live in a huge enclosure and to sleep in a caravan at their Surrey home. Then in 1971 he was flown to Kenya, his ancestral home, and returned to the wild by lion-man George Adamson. Nine months later in 1972, John and Ace returned to Kora in Kenya. This clip is of their reunion at that time. It was an emotional reunion: "He ran towards us, threw himself onto us, knocked us over and hugged us, with his paws on our shoulders." John Rendall Christian's story. Directed by Bill Travers, commentary by Virgina McKenna, founders of the Born Free Foundation.
***UPDATE!*** (It's been due for one for a while now!) Yes, this is the original video. :) This footage is from the documentary Christian The Lion, showing the progress of Christian's rehabilitation from London into to the wild by George Adamson; and of the pride that Mr.Adamson had formed around him. And by all means, the story is not over, as long as there are people around to tell it! To find out more, visit The Born Free Foundation's website: www.bornfree.org.uk and www.bornfree.org.uk If you would like to buy the documentary (or even just donate- all the proceeds go towards animal preservation), you can get it here: www.bornfree.org.uk The Born Free Foundation is an international wildlife charity working throughout the world to stop individual wild animal suffering and protect threatened species in the wild. I first heard of this, and got this footage from: www.kimbawlion.com Yes, I am the first person to post this on YouTube. And yes, Ace Bourke and John Rendall are awesome. Hats off to George Adamson, may he rest in peace. In celebration of the new documentary that aired April 5th, 2009, Animal Planet has also made a website telling Christian's story, complete with all sorts of neat stuff, so you can check it out here: animal.discovery.com So these two people raised this lion cub who they named Christian, and sadly he got too big for them to take care of so they decided to release him to live as a wild lion. Well, in this footage, a year has passed and it looks ...

You'll find this video to be as heartwarming as it is inspiring, reminiscent of rare privileges of a past time and an even rarer moment between humans and animals. Emotional reunion The main part of the film shown on YouTube was shot the following day, when Bourke and Rendall went into the bush to attempt to see their old friend. There are two men in flared jeans and shaggy hair, and there is a lion. The huge carnivore approaches from a distance, slowly at first. Then recognition sets in, and soon everyone - men and beast - are hugging and crying. Christian even brings one of the lionesses in his pride over to meet his former roommates. The Daily Mail story reports that the lioness was clearly not happy with Christian's two-legged friends, and Adamson told Rendall and Bourke that it was time to leave. They went back to the camp, and Christian went with them, staying up late into the night as the humans partied with their friend. The next day Christian walked back into the bush, where his lionesses were waiting. He was never seen again - but the power of the Internet guarantees that he will never be forgotten.
2 people raised this lion who they named Christian. He got too big and the government said it was too old to be in a domestic area so they decided to release him to a wildlife reserve. It had been over a year and experts said the lion will have no recollection of his upbringers To watch any video in high quality, simply put &fmt=18 after the link.

This took place in 1972, about a year after the first reunion seen in the now-famous video. John Rendall and Ace Bourke went back to Kenya to visit Christian one last time. Accompanying them is George Adamson, a former game warden and lion keeper who was originally entrusted with reintroducing Christian to the wild. Now a formidable 500 pounds, Christian clearly dictated the terms of the meeting, but had clearly lost none of his affection for his ex-owners. Not long afterwards, Christian moved out of the area and was not heard from again. It is our hope that he was able to live out his natural life. EDIT: According to Adamson's book "My Pride and Joy", this was not the last time they saw each other. John Rendall would meet Christian, who had grown to record size and sired his own pride, once more in 1974. (Thanks to usasportswarrior for this information)

Two men had decided to adopt a newly born lion from London's zoo. They took great care of the lion and treated it with love, however; they had to send him back to his home in Africa after growing up... this video shows the response of the lion when the two men decided to take a trip to Africa in order to visit their old friend a year later...

THEY ALSO HAVE SIGNED COPIES OF VIRGINIA MCKENNA'S BOOK "CHRISTIAN THE LION'S JOURNEY TO FREEDOM" Christian left the Kora Reserve in 1973. He made his new territory along the Tana river, but when the Wakamba herdsmen kept bringing their livestock to his hunting ground, he moved on. George Adamson said in his autobiography, "I used to count the days on which we hadn't seen Christian, but when they reached 97, I gave up recording them in my diary." Because a lion can live from 12 to 15 years in the wild, Adamson believed that Christian ended his days in the Meru National Reserve only a few miles up river. As for the two guys, the Born Free Foundation tells me that Anthony "Ace" Bourke (referred to as Ace "Berg" in a Daily Mail article) lives in Australia as a lecturer and expert in the area of Aboriginal Art, and John Rendall lives in the UK and is a Trustee of the George Adamson Wildlife Preservation Trust. Anthony Bourke and John Rendall meet up with Christian the lion for a second reunion in 1972. This meeting in Kenya with the now fully grown lion that they originally purchased as a cub from Harrods in 1969 and raised in their flat on London's King's Road, would also turn out to be the three friends' final farewell.
Wild animal but grateful.... watch this www.youtube.com and this www.youtube.com and this www.youtube.com Lion's reunion with men who raised him latest internet sensation.. reunion between two men and a lion has become the latest sensation on the internet. More than six million people have watched the moment when Christian was reunited with the men who bought him as a cub from Harrods" in London then set him free in Africa. Australians John Rendall and Anthony Bourke raised Christian as a pet in their Chelsea flat. The urban lion became a popular local figure in their London antiques shop, until he went from a manageable 35 pounds to 185 pounds, a year later. Christian was moved to the Kenyan wildlife sanctuary featured in the movie Born Free, and after a year living in the wild, was found by his former owners with a pride of his own. The 38-year-old video captures the emotional moment which shows the lion stalking towards the two men, until they call out his name. The fully-grown big cat then leaps upon them - the trio collapsing together as Christian hugs and licks them with familiar affection. The reunion lasted until the next morning when Christian returned to his pride.
