Live Cesarean Operation; how it is done from the start to the great beginning (birth of a child).
Share this on.fb.me TV Documentary about a toddler born with eight limbs and believed by some to be the reincarnation of the multi-limbed Hindu goddess Lakshmi(correction.) She is set to undergo a 40-hour operation to remove half of her limbs. www.youtube.com Update one year later. Lakshmi Tatma was born joined to a 'parasitic twin' and will go under the knife at the hands of 30 surgeons to remove two of her useless arms and legs. The headless 'twin' is joined to Lakshmi at the pelvis and has its own spinal column and kidney. Without the operation the little girl would never be able to walk or crawl and would be unlikely to live past her early teens, doctors said. The extraordinary eight-limbed baby was born in a poverty-stricken region of Bihar, India - on the day devoted to the celebration of the four-armed Hindu deity Vishnu. Her mother Poonam Tatma said she believed her daughter was "a miracle, a reincarnation" of Vishnu.
A Caesarean section is usually performed when a vaginal delivery would put the baby's or mother's life or health at risk. In recent times it has also been performed upon request for childbirths that could otherwise have been natural. In recent years the rate has risen to a record level of 46% in China and to levels of 25% and above in many Asian, European and Latin American countries. In 2007, in the United States, the Caesarean section rate was 31.8%. Credit DANBUZUtv and UNICEF for this interesting video Pregnancy information 32weekspregnant.co
Surgeons being interviewed: Dr. Charles Fraser, Surgeon-in-Chief, Texas Children's Hospital Dr. David Wesson, Associate Surgeon-in-Chief, Texas Children's Hospital Dr. Larry Hollier, Chief of Plastic Surgery, Texas Children's Hospital The story: At only five weeks old, Audrina Cardenas already has a lot to be thankful for. Audrina, who was born with her heart outside her chest, a very rare diagnosis known as ectopia cordis, is currently recovering at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston. She received a life-saving surgery five weeks ago to repair her heart and has defied the odds and is doing very well. Only eight per one million babies are born with ectopia cordis, a rare congenital malformation where the heart is abnormally located either partially or totally outside the chest. Of those eight, 90 percent are either stillborn or die within the first three days of life. On Oct. 16 a multidisciplinary team of surgeons at Texas Children's saved Audrina's life during a miraculous six hour open-heart surgery where they reconstructed her chest cavity to make space for the one-third of her heart that was outside of her body. "This risky operation on such an uncommon condition required specialists from a variety of care teams including cardiovascular surgery, plastic surgery and general pediatric surgery," said Dr. Charles D. Fraser, surgeon-in-chief at Texas Children's Hospital and professor of surgery and pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM). "I have only seen this ...

FORT WORTH — A few days ago — as many of you worried about gift lists and travel plans — a special little baby was born with a life-threatening deformity. A local adoption agency asked that we share his story because someone who sees him may be his future parents. Baby Don is just seven days old, but already has had much taken away. His birth mother relinquished her rights to him. And then there is the child's health. Baby Don has Pierre Robin Sequence, a birth defect combination that left him with a cleft palate and a deformity that gives him an almost nonexistent chin. As a result, his tongue can fall back, choking him. Each breath is a little victory. The Gladney Center for Adoption is handling Baby Don's case. "We are searching for the perfect family for him," said Gladney spokeswoman Jennifer Lanter. "That's a big job, and we want to make sure we find the best family possible for him." First, however, Baby Don needs help from the best surgeon. Dr. Sacha Obaid, a pediatric craniofacial specialist, has agreed to perform the five-hour operation on Christmas Eve. Over the course of a month, tiny screws in Baby Don's jaw will be turned each day to enlarge it. "We literally cause him to grow a brand new jaw," explained Dr. Obaid. It's a frightening, and at times painful process. So while Gladney searches for an adoptive family, they've called on a temporary family in Fort Worth to hold his tiny hand before surgery and to soothe his hurts during recovery. "We'll go there ...
CLICK ON ARROWS to the right for full (P)PROM story: Bennett on Day 28 in the NICU, now weighing 4 lbs., 10 oz., born at 32 weeks gestation, weighing 3 lbs., 5 oz. at birth. This video is for all you (P)PROM moms awaiting the outcome of your pregnancies. In June of 2010, my water broke at 19 weeks (PPROM) and after hospital admission, the perinatologists and OB/GYNs recommended terminating the pregnancy, citing that I would likely get infected, hemorrhage or deliver within the first week. We chose to continue the pregnancy and prepared ourselves for fetal demise (if delivered before 24 weeks gestation) or for a severely disabled child (if born before 28 weeks). Although I never replenished amniotic fluid and my AFIs remained critically low (0-2.5 cm max), the pregnancy continued for another 12 weeks as I remained hospitalized on bedrest for 90 days until I went into labor at 31 weeks and 6 days. We knew that even though we'd made it gestationally farther than any docs thought possible, chances were high his lungs would be hypoplastic at birth and we would lose him in a matter of hours post-delivery. Born by emergency c-section, Bennett was unable to breathe at birth, diagnosed with Pulmonary Hypoplasia, was intubated and put on a high-frequency ventilator. Also diagnosed with Pulmonary Hypertension, he was hooked up to Nitric Oxide. After just four days, he was extubated, taken off the NO and put on CPAP ventilation. After just a day on CPAP, he was weaned to a nasal ...

New Delhi: When Amrita Saxena, (38) saw her son, Akshat, she started crying in joy. But the delight soon turned to shock when she realised that her son was born with a total of 34 fingers -- seven on each hand and 10 on each foot. "I was so happy to see my baby as it was our first child. But later, when I saw his fingers, I was shocked and surprised," she said. At the time of birth in March last year, Akshat was weak, therefore his parents waited till he put on weight before he could be operated on. On Sunday, they finally came to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for the operation. "He was a premature baby and was really weak at the time of birth. So we thought that we will wait till the time he gains some weight. Now that he is fine, we have come here for the treatment. Akshat has problems standing but we believe that he will be perfectly fine after the treatment," said Manoj Saxena, Akshat's father, who works in Bareily. Akshat was born with a rare condition called polydactyly in which a patient has extra digits. He has been admitted at the orthopaedics unit at AIIMS for multiple congenital anomalies which includes anomalies of both hands and feet. "The condition can be called rarest of rare and has not been reported so far. Akshat has been evaluated for other organ anomalies in the hospital but there seems to there is no other organ anomaly. The patient is being investigated regarding anomalies of blood vessel," said Dr PP Kotwal, head of department ...
