THE ABBA TOP 40 - Here's how the songs were ranked : This video montage ranks the top 40 singles released by ABBA, one of the world's best-selling bands, between 1972 and 1983. The ranking is not based on personal whim, but on the songs' actual chart positions. The ranking is determined by reverse scoring ABBA's original single releases from the pop and rock charts in 17 countries. (100 points were assigned for a number one chart position, 99 points for number two and so on, with a bonus 20 points awarded for each number one.) The dates attached to each track identify the year the single peaked in most countries, NOT the year it was produced or the album it appeared on. For example, King Kong Song appeared on the 1974 album "Waterloo", but it charted in Australia and Sweden at the height of the band's popularity, in 1977. Here is a list of the songs together with their point totals. If any of these rankings surprise you, please message me for the complete list of chart positions. 40. I've Been Waiting for You (1975) [52 points] 39. People Need Love (1972) 38. Nina, Pretty Ballerina (1973) 37. Rock Me (1976) 36. King Kong Song (1977) 35. He Is Your Brother (1972) 34. "Fernando" is originally a 1976 single release by ABBA. The song was included on certain 1976 releases of the 1975 Polar Music compilation album "Greatest Hits". In the US, the Atlantic Records 1976 release substituted "Fernando" for "Hasta Mañana". "Fernando" was written by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus. The song remains ABBA's most successful single of all time and one of the most successful singles in history, selling more than 10 million copies worldwide. This live vocal performance is from the 8 April 1976 broadcast of BBC's Top of the Pops. Lyrics Link: www.lyricsmode.com

"Dancing Queen" is a pop song recorded by Swedish pop group ABBA. It was released in August 1976, but was first performed two months earlier, on 18 June 1976, during a Royal Variety Show in Stockholm the evening before the Swedish royal wedding. It was the follow-up single to the hit "Fernando" and is commonly regarded as one of the most successful singles of the 1970s. "Dancing Queen" was written by Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus, and Stig Anderson and is considered by many to be ABBA's signature song, as it reached the number 1 position on popular music charts in 13 countries. Recorded in 1975, it was released on the group's album Arrival the following year and as a single with "That's Me" as the B-side. The song was re-released as a single in 1992 to promote the compilation "ABBA Gold: Greatest Hits".
Fernando was originally released as a single in Sweden by Frida, where it topped the charts for 9 consecutive weeks and broke all records. Abba realised it had international potential and released their own single version in March 1976. It topped the charts in many countries, and stayed at no. 1 in Australia for 14 weeks, equalling Hey Jude by The Beatles. Abba made their first tour to Australia in March 4-14 1976, and experienced Abbamania. Melbourne airport was beseiged by fans chanting for them when they arrived. The girls were moved to tears. Newspaper and tv headlines read "Abba fever hits Australia". Channel 9 recorded the tv special "The Best Of Abba", which included this performance of Fernando. The show was watched by 54% of the viewing public, more than watched the moon landing. They performed their biggest hits, with several costume changes. The tv producer declared "I have never worked with such an agreeable group of people. The image they present on screen - friendly, warm, bright, intelligent people - is exactly what they are. Complete modesty is the group's most refreshing quality". Expessen published some astounding figures after the tour. Abba had 5 singles and 2 albums in the charts at the same time in Australia. Fernando was no. 1, Ring Ring was no. 4, Rock Me was no. 5, Mama Mia was no. 20 and SOS was no. 22. "Abba" and "The Best Of Abba" were numbers 1 and 2 in the album charts. Public demand was so great, "The Best Of Abba" was screened several times ...
