Dedicated to the men and women who never made it home to be with their loved ones. But never neglecting the men and women who are still defending freedom at home, and abroad. You've never lived until you've almost died, for those who fought for it, life has a flavor the protected will never know. -Anon., from Viet Nam, 1968
Tribute to 9-11 as Taps is played and so is Amazing Grace before Lady Antebellum sang the Star Spangled Banner at the NY Jets and Dallas Cowboys game on Sunday Night Football.
Emi Ferguson plays Amazing Grace at the 2011 9/11 Memorial Ceremony at Ground Zero. September 10th, 2011 James Taylor and Paul Simon are among the musicians set to perform at Sunday's 10th Anniversary of 9/11 commemoration ceremony in Lower Manhattan, city officials announced Friday. Taylor, the mellow-voiced crooner famed for songs like "You've Got a Friend," will be performing "Close Your Eyes" and Simon will sing "Bridge Over Troubled Water," according to a new, detailed schedule released by City Hall. Celllist Yo-Yo Ma, who also appeared on the one-year anniversary of 9/11, will be performing "Sarabande" from Bach's First Suite for Cello Solo, and solo flautist Emi Ferguson will provide a rendition of "Amazing Grace." The final musical interlude will be a choral musical performance of "I Will Remember You." James Taylor will be performing "Close Your Eyes" during the city's commemoration ceremony. The ceremony is set to begin just after 8:30 am with a procession of sixty pipers and drummers from the FDNY, NYPD and the Port Authority Police Department. The Brooklyn Youth Chorus will then perform the National Anthem before a city-wide moment of silence at 8:46 am, led by Mayor Michael Bloomberg, in observance of the time the first plane struck the North Tower. The playing of taps ends a remembrance of 9/11 victims at the site of the World Trade Center in New York, seven years after the terrorist attack there. (Sept. 11)
Images from the memorials in Washington DC to the frontlines of Iraq/Afghanistan to the streets of NYC on the day that never will be forgotton, 9/11. If you thought this was cool, check out my other videos in my profile. Featuring USMC tributes, and MCJROTC footage.
This is a very touching tribute to the victims and heros of 9/11/01, performed by the UNL, Corhusker Marching Band on September 10, 2011. There is also a very moving trumpet solo by one of the faculty members there on taps. The alumni band also joined the college group on the field. Unfortunately, due to the location I was sitting, there was a pole in the way for a large portion of the show, but the music is awesome all the same.
The September 11 attacks (often referred to as September 11th or 9/11) were a series of coordinated suicide attacks by al-Qaeda upon the United States on September 11, 2001. On that morning, 19 al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four commercial passenger jet airliners. The hijackers intentionally crashed two of the airliners into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, killing everyone on board and many others working in the buildings. Both buildings collapsed within two hours, destroying nearby buildings and damaging others. The hijackers crashed a third airliner into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, just outside Washington, DC The fourth plane crashed into a field near Shanksville in rural Pennsylvania after some of its passengers and flight crew attempted to retake control of the plane, which the hijackers had redirected toward Washington, DC There were no survivors from any of the flights. The death toll of the attacks was 2996, including the 19 hijackers. The overwhelming majority of casualties were civilians, including nationals of over 70 countries. In addition, there was at least one secondary death -- one person was ruled by a medical examiner to have died from lung disease due to exposure to dust from the World Trade Center's collapse.
